STAR (Education) Warz!
This spring STAR is making the jump to theatrical light speed with our latest extravaganza, STAR (Education) Warz! Individual productions at over 40 different schools will take audiences on a musical journey to a galaxy far, far away. With light sabers flashing and space ships crashing, we’ll wow you with show-stopping numbers that poke gentle fun at the classic fantasy film. All of your favorite characters will be belting out tunes and hoofing it onstage, from Luke Skywalker singing a haunting ballad like “Don’t Cry For Me, Princess Leia” to Chewbacca growling his way through a rockin’ tune like “Magic Millennium Falcon Ride” to Darth Vader kicking up his heels in a tap-dance routine as he warbles his way through “There’s No Side Like The Dark Side”. The force will be with all of us as we laugh and wonder at this gentle lampooning of the movie that made science fiction fun for all ages.
A STAR Wars Tribute!
Your Dome Away From Home
STAR is delighted to present a brand-new class, “Geo Domes,” that will teach you all about geodesic domes. From ancient wonders of the world to the present-day Epcot Center, geo domes have transfixed and inspired. You’ll use basic triangular shapes to create geo domes and develop an understanding of how the framework makes these structures so rigid and strong. By building domes of your own, you’ll come to grasp principles behind the construction of the pyramids, as well as possible habitats that could be built for life on the ocean floor, or even on another planet! The process of dome creation and decoration will incorporate principles of mathematics and engineering while also expanding your imagination and giving voice to your artistic side. Parents will get a chance to see the fruits of your labors when they come to the final class, for which we will have constructed a dome large enough to accommodate grown-ups. Whether you’re interested in aliens, art, architecture, math, or history, there’s no place like dome!

Good Karma, Chameleons!
The STAR ECO Station saw its animal population grow once again when it rescued 75 chameleons that had recently been confiscated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This is just another day in the life for the ECO Station, as it continues to rescue wildlife that no one else will, holding to the ideal that every life is worthy of dedication, effort and love. The ECO Station will be rescuing more soon, and the original group has already grown with the birth of several chameleon babies! The chameleons are made up of two different species: Jacksons, the males of which have three horns on their faces; and Helmeted, who have a small veil on their head that looks something like (surprise!) a helmet. The ECO staff will keep them quarantined for now for safety’s sake, misting the two- and three-inch long creatures with water on a regular basis, and keeping their little tummies full with a steady diet of crickets. As soon as possible, STAR ECO will start integrating the chameleons into its enrichment programs, so keep your eyes out for them, and remember to look closely – these newest additions have a way of blending into the scenery!
Fact: Chameleons change their color based on their emotions & their environment!
