Welcome to the STAR Nova I! STAR invites ALL students to enroll in STAR classes that are taught by experienced instructors who are specialists in their field.
HOW TO REGISTER
1. Completely fill out the registration form.
2. Attach your check, made payable to STAR Education. Make sure your child’s name is on the check.
3. Please return your completed forms and check to room 7, Registration begins November 9, 2009.
4. NO PHONE CALLS will be made to let you know you are enrolled, unless classes are canceled or full.
REGISTRATION FEE
A $10.00 fee is required for each student per session to cover insurance and registration costs. This fee is non-refundable and is not applicable toward the cost of the classes.
Students currently enrolled in the STAR Afterschool Program do not pay the $10 registration fee.
Getting to your STAR classes
1st-5th Grade: Students report to outdoor cafeteria tables.
Kindergartners: STAR will pick up kindergartners from their classrooms and walk them to their classes
For information about school closures and minimum days see your STAR director.
After STAR Classes
Children not picked up at the end of class: 1st- 5th grade are released to the yard. Kinders will remain in STAR and late fees will apply.
ABSENCES
Please contact your STAR Director if your child will be absent from STAR at 310-736-8575
Refund Policy
1. No refunds of any kind will be given after the first week of attendance.
2. We reserve the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. Should such an event occur your money will be credited.
3. Tuition will not be refunded if your child misses a class, quits, or is asked to leave due to disruptive behavior.
Scholarships are available based on need. Please inquire for more information.

Homework Club
Get a head start on your evening! College-educated tutors are ready to assist you in every subject area. Develop lifelong study skills in a focused, quiet work environment. Be prepared to stretch you brain with awesome smart training sessions. This class is offered four times per week!

YUM YUM YOGA!
Be a Yoga STAR! Wake up your senses! Come take Yoga with one of STAR’s master Yoga Instructors. Through fun games you will develop agility, balance, self control, and confidence, while learning fun animal poses such as cobra, crane and downward dog. Oh yeah, and don’t forget we end every class with a secret chocolate-tasting surprise!

IQ-GO! Literacy Skills
Sing, rhyme, and play! This class sets the stage for a lifetime of learning as arts interactions! Children will have fun with phonics, develop confidence in reading, and get started on writing. Our engaging curriculum reinforces classroom learning through games, songs, and performance. Your child will build Language Arts skills while having a blast and experiencing the magic of language!

Sports and Conditioning
Get your head in the game! Build strength, obtain knowledge, increase your speed, and enhance your endurance with the Sports Conditioning class. This stellar class will help prepare you for any "sports dreams" you may have. Learn what it takes to be a champion at the game you love. Our instructors will give you the tools to jump start your way to the top!

IQ-GO! Math
In IQ-GO! Math, you’ll have the chance to work at your own pace and level, whatever that might be. Whether you’ve excelled or struggled with math in the past, our renowned standards-driven program of individualized instruction has been proven by an LAUSD evaluation to be vastly effective in raising test scores and confidence levels. With math games, logic puzzles and hands-on art projects, you’ll increase your math fluency and have fun, all in one class!

A Beatles Tribute Musical (Part 2)
STAR Education Theatre is back in action with a musical tribute to the Beatles. The Beatles are spirited away in the yellow submarine to save Peppermintland from the dreaded Blue Meanies. Dinosaurs! Art or Science?
Connect Science and Art. Make and explore those creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago! Learn about the Stegosaurs, Pteranodons and Triceratops. Find out everything there is to know about dinosaurs! And remember to join us Saturday January 30th for our great annual Dinofaire event at the STAR ECO Station where your dinosaur creations will be on display!!!

Improv For Kids!
Learn from teachers that have worked as professional comedians and studied with Second City, Chicago City Limits, Upright Citizens Brigade and the American Comedy Institute, how could you say no to this hilarious fun filled class!?! Improv for kids is an exciting new addition to Star Education! In this workshop, children are encouraged expand their creativity, confidence, performance and social skills, as they sharpen comedic timing, quick wits and instincts in a safe and nurturing environment. Through a series of theatre games and improv forms they will create memorable characters and scenarios as well as some original sketches! It all ends with The Improv Showcase using suggestions from your family and your friends in the audience! Sign up now!

RockSTAR
RockSTAR Music Education is the most sought out after school rock and roll education program in Los Angeles. In this program children turn their rock n'roll dreams into a reality, working side by side with REAL LA rock musicians. RockSTAR teaches 1st-5th grade students how to play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, compose their own songs, and perform classic rock n' roll hits. This program is for ANYONE, because no previous experience is required! We are recognized by top industry celebrities such as Slash, Santana, Britney Spears, DMC, Gene Simmons, Sammy Hagar, and Rod Stewart. Spanish Mix
There’s never a dull moment in Spanish Mix! Through a variety of approaches, students will learn the language and enhance their reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills while having a great time. Every week, a new approach will keep students engaged and learning through dancing, singing and cooking. The Curriculum will be tailored to meet the necessities of each grade level and STAR’s Spanish immersion Program will be implemented

IQ-GO! Literacy Skills!
Discover your unique voice while building self-confidence and enthusiasm for language arts! IQ-GO! Literacy’s Skills Curriculum reinforces classroom learning with games, creative drama, and visual arts. You’ll work independently and in groups to compete for prizes, and participate in guided reading and writing practice appealing to different learning styles. IQ-GO! students show marked improvement on standardized testing, so join us and play your way to success!

YOGA DANCE (and Chocolate!) Mmmmmm!! Yummmm!!!
Wake up your senses! Yoga like you’ve never seen! Enjoy the simple aesthetic of Yoga and then take it to the next level by turning it into a performance piece. In this class you will explore different yoga poses, discover breath, and cultivate strength and flexibility. From there you will journey on to connect different poses with music into a rhythmic flow of yoga dance! Finally each class will end with a sampling of different chocolate flavors in order to explore the heightened sensory awareness that comes with the practice.

Science and Clay Arts/Life Cycles
Create works of clay that resemble the life cycles of different creatures from tadpoles to frogs, caterpillars to butterflies, bees and beehives and many more. See how they interconnect with Science! Tighten your ball handling skills! Learn how to cross over your opponent and take it to the rim! Basketball is a team sport that will teach you how to compete and succeed with others. This class will teach you how to pass to your teammate behind the back, or a no look pass, and show off your bball skills, and get the crowd in the game! Drills will improve your basketball knowledge so that when you are ready to join a team you will be on the starting five squad!
